Rigid Inflatable Boat (RIB) - Integrated Bridge System (IBS)

Azimuth's Rigid Inflatable boat (RIB) - Integrated Bridge System (IBS) represents our third generation of extreme-duty electronics designed specificially for operation on highspeed, open cockpit patrol boats. RIBS is developed for the US Naval Special Warfare 11m RIB. Developed as an integral component of the craft, RIBS encompasses computers, displays, input devices, and power supplies to provide a turnkey solution.

Severe Environment Control System (SECS)

Recent advances in computers and sensors have yielded sophisticated electronic systems that provide the operator with newfound capabilities. Navigation, communication, and systems monitoring on board various vehicles are now frequently integrated into a single system. These electronic systems vastly improve the situational awareness and effectiveness of its operator with a proliferation that spans air, land and sea vehicles. However, operation of these systems has been hampered by inadequate controls. Variations of traditional computer interfaces (keyboard, mouse, trackball, bezel buttons, etc.) have all been exploited with moderate effectiveness. Using these devices, originally developed for the office environment, in a vehicle is both difficult and potentially hazardous to the operator.

Azimuth has developed a novel solution for the Man Machine Interface (MMI) problem in mobile applications. The SECS design leverages off a familiar interface mechanism found on many consumer electroinics devices. Originally developed for Special Boat Units, SECS is built to handle the rigors of the high speed, open cockpit patrol boat environment.

Craft Integrated Electronic Suite (CIES)®

The CIES® designed by Azimuth Inc., under contract to NAVSEA Carderock Division, is a hardware and software suite that offers small craft operators an integrated interface to all onboard systems. The system is designed in a modular fashion to enable tailoring to a variety of craft and missions.

The system is designed in consideration to the Integrated Bridge System (IBS) ORD (2000) for small craft systems. CIES® features a 32-bit Windows operating system, data redundancy and a One-Gigabit per second throughput Ethernet. Rack mounted node computers, along with military standard mounting and shock abatement, ensures system reliability and is designed to run under harsh marine conditions. All equipment is electrically isolated from the craft by Power Distribution Units (PDU).

Digital Video Recorder-Rack Mountable (DVR-RM)


With 8 channels of digital video recording and streaming, DVR-RM operates as the video management core for marine, land, and air systems. It is an ultra rugged, rack mountable video storage system built to withstand the toughest environments. DVR-RM provides system developers, integrators, and operators with an easy-to-use solution for mobile video data storage, retrieval and management challenges.

Remote Video Surveillance System (RVSS)

Azimuth has developed the RVSS as part of an ongoing support of counterdrug activities being conducted in West Virginia. RVSS is a tool that helps reduce manpower requirements needed to support surveillance operations. RVSS may be deployed and left unattended for extended periods of time. The user simply has to dial-in with a telephone connection and a computer to monitor activities. Optional recording, video switching and titling modules add to the flexibility of the system.

Integrated Bridge System – System Developers Kit (IBS-SDK)

Azimuth is proud to announce the release of its Integrated Bridge System Developers Kit (IBS-SDK). The IBS has been developed with open-architecture interfaces and there are no royalties or associated licensing fees. We developed the IBS-SDK as part of our ongoing work in the small craft Integrated Bridge Systems. The IBS-SDK has been developed to aid 3rd party developers of other equipment. The overall integration effort of the developer is reduced through the common infrastructure of databus information, video as well as an integral ‘Alarms’ management capability. The IBS-SDK combines the actual core hardware and software components used aboard Naval Surface Warfare Special Operation Craft. This allows the developer to fully integrate, exercise and validate their system against ‘the real thing’ prior to on-water tests. Specific components used are the Single Station IBS (SSIBS), the Severe Environment Control System (SECS) and the Furuno 1833 Navnet component. The system is housed in a durable rack that can be brought out of the lab for in-field testing. Complete Interface Control Documents accompanies the system. Compact Pan-Tilt Module (CPTM)

Azimuth has developed a low-cost, compact pan-tilt mount. Originally designed for use in robotics applications, the simple, flexible mount is suitable for a variety of applications. There are several interface options including CAN, Serial (RS232) and direct control using PWM signals.

Single Station Integrated Bridge System (SSIBS)

Azimuth developed the SSIBS as part of our ongoing work in the Small Craft Integrated Bridge System. Specifically, the SSIBS is targeted for deployment on the Naval Special Warfare (NSW), Special Operations Craft-Riverine (SOC-R).

The SSIBS is a compact variant of Azimuth’s RIBS (Rigid Hull Inflatable Boat Integrated Bridge System). SSIBS is designed to fit aboard smaller vessels and preserves all RIBS functionality while occupying less than a quarter the volume of RIBS. Without the luxury of dedicated helmsman, navigator and engineer stations, these craft can most benefit from the data reduction and alarms capability of the IBS. Within a single display, SSIBS manages and integrates navigation, propulsion, video, and radar target information. As with RIBS, the Alarms Manager provides a common, consistent means for the system to monitor any parameter from oil pressure to depth or target tracking.

Embedded Video Matrix (EVM)

Azimuth developed the EVM as part of our ongoing work in the Small Craft Integrated Bridge Systems. The EVM is a PC104 compliant printed circuit card that is intended for use in embedded applications requiring a software controllable video matrix. The EVM supports a 6x6 matrix with expansion capability for up to a 10x10 matrix. A software Interface Control Document (ICD) comes free with each EVM. The EVM comes configured for control via RS-232, but can optionally be supplied with USB or CAN interfaces. As part of the pre-planned product improvement, the EVM is designed to interface to an optional video overlay module which will enable up to three independent channels of text-overlay.

Legacy Engine Interface Module (LEIM)

The LEIM is an electronic module that converts signals from analog sensors to standard digital databus outputs. LEIM was developed to adapt older non-computerized engines to the Controller Area Network (CAN) found on most new passenger and industrial vehicles.

Motion Data Acquisition System (MDAS)

The MDAS is a device that has been developed for Naval Surface Warfare Center (Panama City) to aid in the collection of long term shock and vibration data in high shock and mobility environments. Specifically, it has been developed to automatically capture data aboard off-shore patrol vessels. These high-speed boats are used to transport Naval Special Warfare operators to their missions. However, significant shock and vibration have resulted in both short term injuries and long term disabilities to the occupants. With the aid of MDAS, the first long-term historical database will be built. Data from this database will aid in the development of new equipment and procedures targeted at mitigating shock and hence reducing injury.
